[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE

Something is wrong.

This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.

Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.

Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.

Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.

Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.

There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.

Not that it counts for much, probably.

"Yeah..." She can't help but crack a bit of a smile. The words sounded like something like Sora would say, but the tone generally sounded a lot more like how she felt.

Bracing her hands on either side of her seat, she leans back, looking up towards the sky. It was still kind of unnerving at times, not having a roof over her head; knowing that there wasn't one there. "I'm not human, or... a normal person. I'm a puppet, a replica made to control a special weapon on my worlds. I haven't been there so long though, it's... almost weird to think about."

He blinks. Not what he'd expected to hear. Keith peers up at the stars. Well, she's alive and a person. That's all that matters to him. "Feels kind of...like it was a dream?" Or like it isn't home anymore.

It's a thought he's had off and on. He might...leave again if he goes back to earth. The stars are home. In a strange little way. "Where do you feel home?" The words slip out, his voice soft. He hadn't meant to but what's done is done.

That question is actually easy. "The Tower."

You know, that place she mentioned? With the awful experiments and monsters and mental manipulation and things like that? Yeah. There. She kind of realizes it's probably a weird thing to say, in light of their previous conversation, so...

"It was awful in so many ways, but... It's where I met my family, where... I learned so much. And I've spent most of my life there..."

... oh. Right.

"I'm three."

Please don't get weird about it like Waver did.

"I'm eighteen." If they're trading ages, he might as well share his. Keith - master of failing social cues. "I get it. It was a bad place but that's where you found what matters to you." A pang in his heart is a grim reminder that he's very far from those he holds dear. "...and it's not like being from a bad place, or how you were born determines anything."

Who is he trying to convince with that? Maybe both of them. Keith lifts his shoulders in a small shrug. "It's you who decides that. Right?"

"Yeah, right." She gets that a lot better now than she used to. The feeling's been undermined a bit by the drastic change of plans that was this whole new place, but... still.

She sighs, leaning back forward towards the fire, holding her hands out to warm them a bit. "Did you find something too?"

He stares into the flames. “Yeah. I just don’t know if it’s good or bad.” Some of it is good. He’d discovered a thread that could lead him to more about his past. But to be a good Galra he has to be willing to sacrifice everything even his life. It comes in direct conflict with everything he’s learned as a Voltron.

“It seems more like the kind of answer I have to decide for myself. And there is no easy answer.” He says it all and nothing in the same breath. The gist is there and that’s what is important. He draws his knife to check the edges of it.

Xion nods.

"That's... one good thing about places like this, really," she comments, "You sort of... you get time, when you think you didn't. Or more than you expected."

It's one of the good things she can easily pick out, given her own situation. Back home, she would have had three months to make her choice about her own future - and under extreme duress at that. At the Tower, she had over two years, ones she'd made good use of.

"...yeah. I'm starting to get that." He has time to sort himself out. While he doesn't see any issues with his choice he does have a lot to think over. His blade is fine. He slides it back into its sheath.

"Doesn't also complicate things? You have all this time to figure things out, but you can't resolve them." Months from now he might have his head together and be tearing down the walls trying to get out of this wide open cage. He can feel it like an itch just under his skin. He has to get back. He has to find out what happened to the team, the Blades, the rebels.

"Yeah, it can," she admits, "Back home... I had a choice of my own to make. A... a different one. It... wasn't simple then. But it would be before too long."

That's... the easiest way to explain it. "The Tower helped, but I didn't have to think about my family before then. After... I did."

It was just one of the potential complications, to be sure, but one of the most immediate ones to her heart.
thermalwind: (nothing witty here)

He nods. Being connected to other people can be difficult. They get upset when you make choices that might rip you from their grasp. No matter how necessary those choices are. Being alone is easier. “Sounds about like anything else. Good and bad points.”

Pros and cons. No sense in worrying about what he can’t fix. “We’ll figure this out. ...and resolve what we can.” That’s the best way he can put it.
