The Story So Far - August 2017

Welcome, brave adventurer. It appears that LifeAftr has decided to begin your story anew.

Prior to characters awaking on the introduction log, each will receive a dream from The Storyteller; the local god assisting characters in both providing resources, shelter, and working towards a mutual goal of discovering just who (or what) has brought them from their worlds.

Appearing as an overly large, white rabbit, about the size of a toddler, the Storyteller introduces themself simply enough; at the edge of a fire surrounded by darkness, your character will find themself seated and attentive to their tale. Their introduction is simple, yet succinct.

I am the Storyteller. This is the name that people have given me, more or less. One might say that I should be the more universal god of this world; no matter your intentions, no matter your beliefs, you will always create a story. That is simply what a life does.

When one freely bestows a story to me; a tale they tell in their own fashion, be it vocal, written, built into the walls of their shelter, it provides unto me the capability to assist you more. Of course, I can hardly expect you all to take time from your busy schedules to sit around and tell me things; this is why you will find yourself here again whilst you sleep. When I am ready for your stories, you will know.

I am not what has brought you here, nor do I know how this has occurred. To those who have arrived before you, I have explained this matter- multiple times. It is my belief that we may be of mutual benefit to one another in seeking out this aberration; though like many before you, I make no promises that doing so will send you home.

As said. It is impossible for you to be here, and yet you are. Your story is about to begin anew. You and I are not the ones to decide that.

I exist to perceive your story. And you? Well, I don’t rightly know. You are here simply to live it, perhaps.

The Storyteller will then go on to explain a few, key functions of the islands;

A story cannot continue without a protagonist. They assure any anxious for the state of their homes or friends that their story will be just as they left it; not a moment after. Of course, this mightn't be all that reassuring, if one stops to consider that there might not be a way to get home...

Mana Pools can be found at the Storyteller's temple on Enso, with two on the islets created by the Storyteller for characters to call home. They are used for recharging any sigils required by characters, as well as a teleportation mechanic. To teleport from one pool to another, a character simply needs to pick a narcissus flower and toss it into the pool, stating their intended location.

Storytelling occurs once a month. Characters may tell one or more stories at this time- at which point, they may use these stories to request items, materials, or companions that will assist their survival. Stories do not need to be cashed in straight away (and OOCly, the mods are keeping track of how many stories a character has left to use. If in doubt, ask!). As of the beginning of September, the Storyteller humbly requests that all stories told are provided from character's adventures within LifeAftr, rather than their canon, or previous games.

For characters who are robotic in nature, or require restrictions to a monstrous dietary requirement, the Storyteller will assure them that they have already quelled these urges through the use of a particular sigil; predominantly, this will be found on your character's back. The sigil requires charging at the nearest mana pool at least once every two weeks; and please, reclining near the pool will charge it just fine. Please do not bathe in the magical pool.

From here, any questions your character has will need to be gleaned from others, or asked to the Storyteller at a later date. The dream will end without room for questions- this god is a very busy one, you see.

And there will be plenty of time later.
