[MU] - MAY STORYTELLING
The world is silent, and the dream-night is absolute. The Storyteller has no commentary to offer you, or warnings to venture, or anything else. There is only the drape of Mu's night and the vision of a campfire, and the means with which you might tell your stories.
Io still awaits, in your waking days. After tonight, Cahypdo will vanish. What happens until then is all routine - and no one has any idea what might be coming.
It is time, once more, for you to tell a story. The setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams. This too is a dream, and the ink-black dark is illuminated only by the bonfire surrounded by log seats. And seated around the fire are your fellow islanders, many of whom doubtless know the drill by now.
One by one, you will each have the opportunity to share your stories, as stories possess a certain undeniable power. Newcomers can tell whatever tale they wish, but for those who have been in LifeAftr for at least one Storytelling, only stories of their time in LifeAftr will count down the road. The story need not be long, or conventional, or even verbal; as long as the Storyteller knows it has been told, it will qualify. Those of the nonverbal persuasion have, as of a request issued by Ren (
catpiper), an alternative means of telling their stories if they so choose, in the form of the Chamber of Glyphs.
If you prefer to keep your mouth shut, that's always an option, though you're more liable to benefit if you do. Perhaps you'd rather not relive any of your history, varied and variegated as it must be. Or maybe you're something of a compulsive un-truther, prone to embellishments and long, fanciful tangents. As long as the core of the story is true to its spirit, you are free to spin your tale however you like.
So choose well.

Remember that those who have already undergone one Storytelling cycle must tell a story of their time in LifeAftr in order for it to count. Newcomers may tell whatever stories they like!

Character Name: Ren
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3 (1 for LupNet)
Offering(s):
One-There was a kid she met in a dream, who lost against her in a battle of ink wits, and she met him again at Denny. He really likes math? He also likes drinking things. That's another thing. It was fun to be with him and the moral of the story is to be nice to drunk children.
Two-Party island is the second best place they've ever gone, falling short of Enso, which is her home, so she's a little biased. But heck, she's gonna talk about playing on the honeycomb with Zidane, doodling with the Knight, shooting fireworks with Tim, and making a fort that she invited many, many people to play in with her. It was dope. And she's excited. And probably wants to go back right now immediately.
The final story isn't so much of a story at first. It starts off as a request for the Storyteller to listen for the hearts of Murasaki's lost pets because she wants them to be safe. She'll quietly talk about the last time she saw him-about how he played music at the party and how she tried to look for him after he vanished, but that talk ends fast because it's too sad for her to think about for long.

Character Name: Arthur Morgan
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s):
1 - A fairly straightforward story about the time Arthur helped rescue someone he refers to to as "about near the dumbest bastard I know" from a pack of wolves, up in the snowy mountains of the American Grizzlies. He takes care to mention that the unnamed man had gone off alone and already gotten half of his face chewed on before they found him, and lost his poor horse up there, too. While Arthur's words for him are nothing but berating, they're also edged with a reluctant, almost fraternal affection.
2 - The time he was at a bar and got fed up with one of the regulars, a loudmouthed drunkard with a coonskin cap who was always shouting nonsense. They started punching each other, which ended in Arthur stealing the coonskin cap off of the guy's unconscious body, because it seemed like a good idea at the time. Considering the guy jumped him in his hotel room a few days later just to get his hat back and Arthur had to knock him out again, it probably wasn't.
3 - Those awkward few encounters Arthur had with a woman who went around stabbing folks in their hotel rooms, and how he ended up disposing of evidence for her... twice. He spares the gory details on this one, but goes out of his way to mention that these were probably bad men she was offing, so even if he should have stayed out of it, he wasn't really broken up about ending up as her unwitting accomplice in the whole thing. He also mentions that she got caught in the end - but doesn't go into more detail than that.

Character Name: Leonard Church (Alpha)
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s):
-Ardyn just wants peace and quiet which sucks because that's not how Church rolls. Laughs about Ardyn the hissing cat who doesn't wanna get splashed or have fun and ohhh look how menacing he is~
-Wash gave him a sword, which I'm sure won't be trouble later or anything. This one's more hesitant as he tries to figure out how to talk about this without going into the uh emotional details or anything. Worked out a couple communication issues, like adults, so that's a thing!
-This weirdo works in an archive and wants to face down terrifying things because he wants to know and, okay, maybe it works because no stalky mothman actually happens but this dude just! Straight up wants to call out mothman! Who does that!
Public/Private: Public

Character Name: Tim Wright
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s): As usual, he tells most of these privately, relatively calmly, and without going into a lot of detail. Also mentioning himself in these narratives as...little as possible, whenever he can.
Public/Private: First two are private. The last is public!
no subject
Character Name: The Drifter
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s): As is typical for them, they tell their stories nonverbally, with a mixture of text and drawings on the Chamber of Glyphs. This makes for some relatively clipped, impersonal telling, but they do their best!
Public/Private: All public, if nonverbally
no subject
Character Name: Agent Washington
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s): As always, Wash's tone for these "stories" is less of a story and more of a post-mission report. He's clipped, formal, brusque, and probably not terribly interesting to listen to.
Public/Private: All three are private!

Character Name: Lillie
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 2
Offering(s): (i'm sorry i don't have links this time, i juST CLEARED ALL THE OLD STUFF OUT)
- She met a glowing green cyborg man when she got lost on her way back home one night. That was pretty incredible, she thinks, so she shares the news of said cyborg's arrival enthusiastically with the rest of the group.
- She met someone very interested in tea! Which was exciting, because she is very booksmart about tea and tea preparation, but hasn't had much practice, so it was lovely to hear first hand how it's really done.

Character Name: Faust
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s):
Story 1: What better way to start off this storytelling than essentially screaming about the horrible abomination in the woods? What the heck is it? Why is it there?! WHY DID NOBODY INFORM HIM IT LIVED THERE?! WHY WAS THERE A WEIRD CONSTRUCT GUY JUST CHILLING WITH IT?!?!?!?
Faust does eventually regain his composure, and admits that perhaps he allowed himself to get a bit too rattled by the strange creature. Anybody affected by its terrifying presence is more than welcome to confide in him. Speaking of which...
Story 2: The good doctor speaks in earnest, profusely thanking everybody who helped support him and the clinic during its renovations - and announces that yes, the Ensō Clinic and Infirmary is in fact open for business! Whilst they are still somewhat lacking in medicines or proper equipment, Faust and his newfound colleagues are more than prepared for any kind of emergencies the isles may throw at them!
(At least, he hopes they are.)
Story 3: After the trauma conga line that was Cahypdo, it's beyond relieving to have an island that's genuinely interested in everyone's wellbeing! The baths, the tea, the campsites...it's a break Faust believes everybody's earned, and caps the story off demanding everyone spend mandatory vacation time on Io. Doctors orders!

Character Name: Beauregard
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s):
- The first story is a half story, half brag, about finding some very incredible mushrooms on the new island. She insists they're very rare and very valuable, so anyone who might want to trade could contact her with something cool and also valuable. Wink wink. Nudge Nudge.
- The second story is a maybe not entirely fictional tale of a legendary race between two trained acrobatics experts, doing amazing flips and spins... but y'know, the human that looks suspiciously like her wins, of course. She's looking right at Mollymauk when she does this with a very, very big grin, because of course she is.
- And the final story is a little bit of a confused retelling of apparently pit wrestling a hyena last month?? She still hasn't figured out what was up with this, but she's just kind of letting people know she might have been hallucinating a little too hard during that age changing ash, guys. Watch yourselves.
Public/Private: All public!

Character Name: Kravitz
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s):
- His first story is about meeting a very nice cyborg man in the temple over on Io. Kravitz remarks that it was nice to meet someone not under the threat of death for once, even if there was some flying fruit involved.
- His second story is about a little beach chaos with a blue tiefling girl. This is half an apology for the shenanigans and half a callout post, because he's still pretty certain she was goofing on him. Or at least, pretty sure.
- His final story is a direct tale just to the Storyteller, about meeting their younger self last month. He tells them that while he won't corner them with their secrets, he understands not remembering possibly important parts of your past, and if the Storyteller would like to talk about it, he would be very happy to lend an ear.
Public/Private: First two public, last private!

Character Name: Five
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 2
Offering(s): Five explains the relevancy of his brothers Klaus and Ben's arrival to his calculations with very many math words and some equations written in the Chamber of Glyphs for illustration purposes. He peppers this with a lot of asides about how he's had to teach them basic survival and how useless they are, but the amount of time he spends talking about them shows that he's pretty damn relieved they're here.
He's also wondering if there's any statistical relevancy to the amount of formerly dead people around here, which was brought to his attention on the community rock. It's more of a side project, since he doesn't think there's evidence of a strong link between that and his own family's arrival here, but he can't say for sure until he's seen the data. He'll have to catch up with that Kravitz fellow.

Character Name: Klaus Hargreeves
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s): Klaus' style of storytelling is a little disorganized. He's prone to suddenly realizing he doesn't wholly remember the finer details (or the larger details) and it's... pretty clear that's because of his drug habits. He also tends to throw in nonsequiturs or exaggerate for comedic effect, even if the joke lands a little dark.
Also, the usual Klaus content warnings apply, namely, uh, drug use and addiction.
1. He tells the story of a time when he stole prison wine from behind his block's winemaker's toilet. Not knowing anything about the actual winemaking process, he ended up ingesting a ton of rotten tomatoes and other disgusting things and had the worst food poisoning he's ever had. And also got beat to shit over it. The fact that he thinks this is hilarious is probably concerning.
2. He tells another story of how he accidentally set a corner store on fire, like, just a little bit. He doesn't remember the whole story, because he was not all there at the time, but he does know it had something to do with a broken bottle of Smirnoff and a heroin spoon in the bathroom. He stresses that there wasn't that much property damage, but does complain that the surveillance footage photo of him banning him from the store did not catch his good side.
3. Trying to think of something else utterly outrageous to mention, he offhandedly mentions meeting a god before, he thinks. His telling of this story is much less colorful and far briefer. The long and short of it is that he died and met God and "she basically just called me a bitch and sent me back home." He laughs a little at that, and it seems like it's set up as a joke, but he's pretty distracted when he tells it. He doesn't go into much more detail.

Character Name: Jester
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 1
Offering(s): Jester was not planning to tell a story, and she makes this clear before she starts. She states plainly that she doesn't want to offer the Storyteller anything because she follows the Traveler only, and she's not sure he'd like it if she started making friends with gods he doesn't know.
But, you know, if someone just happened to overhear her talking about how this weird guy was just like, trying to set the beach on fire or something, and how she heroically intervened and convinced him not to kill anyone or make anything explode, well... There's not much she could do about that then, huh?
She locks eyes with Kravitz at the end of the story meaningfully.
Public/Private: Public as any good revenge story

Character Name: Héctor
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s):
- He starts off describing a newcomer who, as of yet, has not spoken, signed, or written a single word at him. The purpose of this 'story' is mostly just to wonder out loud if anyone else knows anything about them. They might have looked creepy, but so do half the other people on this island, c'mon guys.
- Hey, Tory, what do you think of a card tournament? Mostly this is just him bringing up the idea again. Who's for it?! (Also, he is going to order some stuff. Yay. Please enjoy him passive aggressively implying that wearing a suit on a tropical island is stupid.)
- A runthrough of all the nothing he did on this very good island. Seriously, an island where nothing terrible happened? Life is good?? Will they have to pay for it later??

Character Name: Connor Murphy

Number of Offerings: 3

Public/Private: Private, as usual.

Character Name: Michael
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 2
Offering(s):
- The age regression was super weird? Michael's never had significant contact with children for several reasons, but he thinks he did pretty well overall! He talks about his encounters with Tim and Guzma in particular. Kids aren't hard after all!
- On the other hand, he'll also chat some about the couple of days he spent hanging out alone in a cave because he was afraid of what he might do if he regressed in age. This seems to be him thinking aloud as much as it's a story - would he have just randomly started going to town on the humans? He thinks maybe not, but he can't be sure, and it's weird to think about how alien he's become to himself.
Public/Private: The second one is private!

Character Name: Asgore
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s):
- The children are back! Asgore briefly discusses how glad he is that they've returned, and that he got to speak with Chara for a little bit. He finishes by observing, with a certain air of finality, that he's sure Toriel's presence will be good for both Chara and Frisk.
- Tea gardens! This story begins as a pleased anecdote about all the tea there, but it turns quickly into something about the conversation he had with Tim. It was nice to speak properly to him; he's wanted to know the man better for a while, but has never known how to approach.
- The youth event was weird huh! Asgore seems to have some mixed feelings towards his child self - he'll talk about how Toriel was kind to him, kinder than he deserves, except perhaps he had become someone who did? Man, what happened to that? He wonders if she regrets it now that everything's back to normal.

Character Name: Agent Maine
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s): Maine is taciturn to a fault, typically using 1-4 words per sentence. He sticks to facts and supplements his words with body language and gestures. He treats this like a briefing and appears mostly emotionless unless noted. Public/Private: private
Because I stupidly didn't put this up to solve the event. Here it is!
Character Name: Zidane Tribal
Character Journal:
Number of Offerings: 3
Offering(s): One This is when he chases Beau in the Honeycomb. Outcome has yet to be played out ICly but regardless of who wins, there was a rush and a thrill of the whole thing. It was just fun!
Two is him meeting the shadowy figure and almost getting into a fight with Yukio when they both realise the cause of their paranoia is the shadowy figure and decide to work together.
Three is when he and Ren raced together in the Honeycomb. Again, this was full of thrill and excitement and tons of fun.
Because of his job as an actor Zidane's pretty good at telling things in an exciting or tense way and there were probably a lot of dramatic hand gestures as he was explaining what was going on.
Public/Private: All public for the moment.
IC || STORYTELLING
small ic announcement
[He doesn't have them on him right this minute, but he's referring to Denny's new entertainment section.]
So if anyone here likes checkers, or chess, or dominoes...there's also a board for tic tac toe. Just try not to break anything or lose any pieces. If you do, just...let me know, and I'll make new ones. It's not really a big deal.
It's not much. Might help pass the time, if you're interested. I'm not sure on what else there is to make, but if anyone has any...I dunno, requests for anything else like that, I can try my best.
So...yeah. That's it.
no subject
[He says this like it doesn't require further explanation for Literally Everyone Else.]
no subject
...I forget if you've explained what that means to me or not.
no subject
[So it's a word association game for terrible people, is what he's saying.]
no subject
...all-ages, huh?
no subject
[This is definitely how that label works, right?]
no subject
[You know what? He's not gonna go there.]
How much of this game relies on references that maybe three people on these islands will get?
cw: ableism? kind of?
[For the record, these are real rules a local group I know plays with abd that is really what we call them because they grew out of an Apple to Apples rule wgere if you played "Helen Keller" as a card, you automatically won. No, I have no idea why.]
no subject
[He should maybe make a...rule list? Or have Connor make it. Except he's not sure that, if Connor makes it, it'll be all the way comprehensible.]
Zero gave me permission blame them
[Just giving you a quick tingle, ol buddy ol chum. Nothing to concern yourself with.]
What against humanity?
[Why haven't they heard of this and why don't they have like, ten????]
oh my god
[He pulls something else from his pocket and flicks it over to Chara. Congrats, you've activated my trap card. This joke is only funny on a meta level.]
Look. It's necessary. It's VITAL.
Their brow furrows further. And then
They look to him with a glint in their eyes. It's not unhappy, no.
That's the look of someone who's just found something their mother definitely wouldn't approve of.]
And there's a whole deck of these?
no subject
Oh yeah. Hundreds of cards, all exactly like that. [Pause.] House rules are no stabbing, though.
[He's not about to get stabbed over Cards Against Humanity, okay? If he deserves it, that's fine but card games aren't worth it.]
no subject
A bad sport is not one of them.
[Although if they still had the ability to LOAD, cheater may have been something to add to the list. Maybe.
no subject
[Has he had things thrown at him for his answers? Definitely. There's only one thing Connor likes more than memes and it's off-color jokes.]
no subject
[Because they'll absolutely be the shit who makes the worst joke possible.]
no subject
[why play a mean game when you can be out there actually against humanity]
But I thought it was fun.
