[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE

Something is wrong.

This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.

Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.

Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.

Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.

Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.

There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.

Not that it counts for much, probably.

Asch is precisely the sort of person who would pay attention to the subtle shift - not that he would speak either language his seems to be fantasy german with some random latin roots thrown in, but -

Well, you don't just throw that sort of thing at a Magic Sound Chosen One and expect him not to catch it.

The words themselves are more troubling, though -

"I don't think you need to worry about that," he says, slowly, carefully. "Anyone who tried would be dead on the ground first."

“No one is asking you to explain something you don't want to,” Laurent says, clasping Damen's hand. It becomes obvious that they are wearing matching cuffs, identical except for the Soul Gem on the blonde’s piece. In Akielon he adds, “just speak Akielon, don't be a smartass.”

Asch’s reply seems to make him laugh-a dry chuckle, like there’s some dramatic irony in this. but he doesn't explain as he detaches himself from Damen, making to leave with a last comment. "With luck we won't have to explore that. And Damen, there are better conversation starters than me.”

Damen sighs as Laurent gets up saying: "Lovely weather we are having, is it not? What a shame that everyone is so on edge from this turn of events."

It sounds like a verbatim recitation of something out of a textbook, rather than anything an actual person might say to start a conversation. Because it is - it's a sample greeting sentence he learned in his Veretian lessons he remembers mostly because he couldn't fathom why he would ever need to say it.

Apparently the answer to that question is "specifically to annoy someone by both using your worst, most formal Veretian and blatantly using the worst conversational starter in the history of conversation."

...These two are either a disaster or a relationship goal, and it says something about Asch that he's not entirely sure which. He's no longer so keyed up that the comment makes him laugh, but there's an amused look on his face that he can't quite hide.

"Given that your memories are some of the nicest I've seen today, I can't really blame them." Ardyn's rank worst and will probably continue to rank worst if this ever happens again, somehow, but hardly any of these are what Asch would consider fun.

It says a lot about how little he's been antagonised that Laurent actually laughs, looking pleased.

"That's how it is on this bitch of an earth.”

If we’re exchanging first language lessons, Laurent's priorities appear to be ‘teach me how to say fuck’. “Please play nice with my lover, Asch. I’d hate to have to gut you.” And with that, he bows out. He can't keep helicopter parenting all his boyfriend’s conversations.

"He wouldn't actually," Damen says once Laurent leaves. "As bitchy as he seems, he isn't a fan of unnecessary violence."

There's a natural casualness to the way Damen is speaking, because he did switch back into his native language. He does occasionally listen to Laurent eventually, if not immediately.

"But you're right. Memories are dark things and I guess I should be glad it was only these, nothing worse."
