[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE

Something is wrong.

This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.

Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.

Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.

Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.

Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.

There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.

Not that it counts for much, probably.

[At least they're easy to find. Never one to hide from such things, Chara is seated by one of the fires, eyes on the flames- and drifting towards anyone who gets too close. A smile for some, but each upwards press of their lips is tight.

They're clearly unhappy, but then, who wouldn't be? They aren't the only one whose most vulnerable memories have just been spilled out for the world to see.]

[Who wouldn't be indeed... Guzma has had some of his worst memories seen by many people - his flaws, his weaknesses, his fears...all of them open and broadcast to the whole of the island. He hates it, and he hates seeing into others's memories as well. It's not right, for him to look and to listen. He feels almost guilty having witnessed some of them; it's not his place. These visions aren't meant for anyone but their owner.

So it's with a hoarse, gravelly tone that he addresses the child--]

Yo. [Guzma squats nearby, not relly looking them in the eye just yet. He's more focused on the fire, his hands, shoes...anywhere else but their face.]

That name...is it important to you? [He doesn't elaborate on 'that name' - they know which one. They both know. And Guzma's not looking for a detailed explanation - just yes or no.]

[He, at least, asks. It's not a presumption, like others have presented. He doesn't compliment it, doesn't attempt to pat them on the shoulder and make light of what, for many reasons, is a memory they would prefer never to have had.

Is it important, he asks. Another trust fall. Another moment where they're leaping, without even a single hint as to what he may do with that.]

...Yes.

[Quiet. Almost a whisper.]

Yes it is.

[Names are, after all, important to a lot of people. Names hold a lot of feelings, thoughts, complicated memories... How would he have reacted, if his name - his surname - was uttered to him now? Now, when he cast that part of himself into the sea of fire? He would probably knock the person fool enough to speak it unconscious. It's not his name. He has no ties to it anymore.

So, he doesn't assume. And with the response, he breathes out a little bit - tired, and...maybe a bit disappointed? It's difficult to read his features, and what he's actually conveying. This matter is far more delicate than just a simple memory. He's been there, and that's why he's treading very carefully. Memories like this are...fragile. They toe a line between good and bad - a thin and fractured line. But, he has his answer, and nods stiffly.

Right, so it's important. He'll remember that, and may very well start calling them that, if it doesn't upset them too much. But--]

...Gonna take me a while to stop calling y'all the nicknames I chose. [He clears his throat, looking up for only a quick glance.] That okay? If I keep calling you Amsonia?

[Again, he asks. And again, they find themself hesitating solely due to their basic instincts, watching his expression for any sign of deceit, or- something. An intent to use this against them.

Again, they find none. Like they've never found with Lup. Like they've never found with Wade. It's why, when they do respond, their voice is still

So small. More childish than anything he's seen from them.]

I'd prefer that.

[There is nothing on his face, and only a very brief hint of emotion once the child - Chara Dreemur - gives Guzma their answer. He feels a bit of relief, and perhaps a little glad, or humbled? It's hard to tell, and harder to explain, but he nods silently and stands up, having gotten what he came here to get.

Guzma doesn't probe further, doesn't ask, doesn't even speak. He had one sole purpose with this meeting and he got what he needed - an answer to a question. He has nothing further he needs to be here for, nothing further he needs--or should ask. He's seen enough, and this kid has probably suffered enough questioning for one day. Neither of them should linger here any further.

It's time to wake up.]
