[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE
Something is wrong.
This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.
Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.
Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.
It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.
Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.
Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.
There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.
Not that it counts for much, probably.

[What he did was freeze up entirely, a choked noise like a half-formed protest sticking in his throat as his hands hovered uncertain about whether Ardyn was going to lightly disengage or do something else entirely.]
St-...
[Apart from the shake in his shoulders, the tension slowly drained out of Ardyn--giving up more than relaxing in the strictest sense. He laughed hollowly, leaning his head on Ignis's shoulder. (Were humans always that warm, he wondered idly.)]
What are you going to say if one of your friends should see this? I'm still-... [He trailed off, hesitant to say 'your worst enemy' no matter how true it was. Because here and back in the desert...right now, he was Ardyn Lucis Caelum for however fleeting a time.]
...you won't be able to. I won't hold it against you, even if the thing I became will more than likely taunt you for it. It isn't so unforgivable that you're lying when you make a promise you've no ability to keep.
no subject
[Because Ignis isn't going anywhere. Ardyn would have had to shove him away and since he hasn't, the Advisor isn't moving. Not until he's ready to.
Get used to that warmth, Ardyn.]
If they see this, I will tell them the truth should they even feel the need to ask. I do what I do to help Noct and should I help another along the way, then even better. Believe what you will, but you are not the same person as that monster and I will fight him until the very end for you. Let both of you doubt me all you want.
[He pauses then, leaning a little more into Ardyn, words whispered for the redhead's ears only.]
I will enjoy proving you both wrong.

[Obviously. The king's retainers were just that; a source of endless and dark jealousy for Ardyn who was and always had been alone. Even if Ignis promised to help, it would all mean nothing if and when Ardyn once again became a threat to Noctis. He knew that, accepted it, and didn't fully understand why the adviser refused to acknowledge the obvious conclusion.]
...I'm sorry. I can't believe you, and I won't allow myself to think otherwise no matter what you say. [He laughed in pained exhaustion, arms awkwardly coming to rest around Ignis for lack of really comprehending a proper reaction.]
Trust and hope are nothing but poison. Painful, cold, and bound to only make one suffer.
no subject
[Where there is a will, there is a way, and Ignis has no shortage of will. If this must be a challenge, then so be it. It's a challenge he will defeat.
One of Ignis' hands moves to Ardyn's shoulder then, while the other carefully brushes back tangled hair, letting the Advisor know where the redhead's eyes are so he can turn his blind gaze upon them.]
And jealousy and fear are a fire. Searing, hot, and determined to burn all to ash. Since both lead to pain and death, I know which way I prefer to go out.
no subject
...I don't understand. You know what I am, what I've done, and must have some idea of what I've yet to do from your perspective. I'm your enemy, Noctis' enemy, and a plague on the very world itself. So why...why ignore every warning and go to all this trouble? Why does anyone even care?
no subject
Ah, my silly monster, you really don't understand, do you? Lack of care is the mistake that brought us to this place. It is a mistake that I do not wish to repeat and any with half a brain will feel the same despite the danger such an action may cause.
no subject
[Ardyn reached up to gently disentangle Ignis' hand from his hair, taking it in both of his own in a similar way as he'd done in the caves. Just as awkward and unsure, if a little less insistent than he'd been then.]
What I've become is not worth the danger. You risk setting yourself aflame solely to bring warmth to one no longer able to feel it. I would not wish any of you who have been kind to me to come to harm at my hands, and I also do not wish to invite yet more betrayal.
Tag as old as time, Tale as...blah, blah, blah. Feel free to ignore if you wish!
My point is, I'm afraid I've decided to ignore your warnings. You're quite stuck with me.
[A fond smile crosses Ignis' face.]
Besides, it's those who think they can no longer feel warmth that need it the most.
