[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE

Something is wrong.

This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.

Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.

Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.

Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.

Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.

There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.

Not that it counts for much, probably.

[Ignis, of all people, will probably not be surprised by the voice that eventually picks up where his leaves off. He knows already how young Asch is, in comparison to even Noctis - it only stands to reason that the road to who he is now started just as young.]

Someday, when we're grown up, let's change this country. I was seven and I already knew what I intended to do with the throne once I had it.

[The sound of movement - a shrug.]

Guess I shouldn't be surprised you were pretty much the same. We both knew exactly what we wanted.

[Hanging unsaid - and neither of us got it.]

[A soft sigh slips from Ignis' mouth as he nods. No, he's not surprised to hear Asch's voice. They have been alike in so many other ways. Why not this as well?

He turns his head in the redhead's direction, expression torn between understanding and sadness. They hadn't gotten it, had they? At least, not in the way they wanted.]

Who was your partner in crime, if I may ask?

...Crown Princess Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear. The fiance I would never get to marry.

[There's some bitterness to it. There's lots of reasons to have bitterness towards it.]

Arranged, of course. Also, my first cousin, and one of the only friends I had growing up.

People like us, we're not good at making friends, are we? I know I never felt I needed more than Noctis, though later Gladio and Prompto did join that number.

[Being so focused on duty makes it so one doesn't have the time or the inclination to learn people as well as they should. Ignis is lucky that he's always been naturally inclined to care for others, otherwise he would be as bad as Asch when it comes to knowing how to deal with people. After all, one can only learn so much about dealing with people from books.

Ignis can't help but be startled by one part of Asch's answer, though.]

Wait, she was your first cousin? Isn't that a little...?

[Ignis gestures with one hand to finish off the statement. Yes, he knows how 'interconnected' royal lines can be, but marrying two who are that close makes him very uneasy.]

Don't forget that I wasn't expected to live to adulthood and those arranging the marriage knew it. Plus, she was blond, and they had to get the red back into her children somehow - it wouldn't be the first time.

[TWO THOUSAND YEARS OF INBREEDING. Asch runs his hand through his hair thoughtfully.]

It turned out she was secretly adopted, anyway. Long story.

...had to get the red back into her children somehow... Astrals!

[Despite being intimately familiar with the working of politics from a young age, Ignis hasn't had his moral compass broken like so many of his ilk have. It disgusts him to hear Asch speak of himself and Natalie as little more than breeding stock.]

You will have to forgive my anger. I know it changes nothing, but I find myself unable to help it.

[He's never reacted to helplessness well and the idea that he can do nothing about how Asch has been viewed and treated makes his skin crawl.]

Get angry all you like. I don't mind. There's probably things it hasn't even occurred to me to be angry about yet.

[More fuel to the fire is always welcome. The smoulder of it will burn for the rest of his life.]

...It says something kind of sad, doesn't it? That the only parts of my family that I have a good opinion of were adopted or created, not born into it.
