[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE

Something is wrong.

This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.

Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.

Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.

Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.

Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.

There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.

Not that it counts for much, probably.

[Muffet smiles wryly, agreeing.]

Perhaps that is what angel worship boils down to, in the end- do the job well enough on Earth and there's no reason not to keep employing you after passing on. It might be nice if the work in question were a bit more optional down here, but I suppose one can't have everything.

...Well, not without quite a lot of effort, at least.

[She's not saying she wants literally everything, just... most things. Muffet's never pretended not to be a bit greedy, after all.]

[That gets a short bark of a laugh out of Shepard and she shakes her head.]

It sounds like you got quite an idea for how much you want to do. Or at least wanted to do back home. What were you up to there?

Generally, six or seven things all at once. Which is not dissimilar from here, I admit.

[Her? A workaholic? Perish the thought.]

My business, on paper, is a bakery. But I've been expanding to cover quite a few more sorts of food production and sale, not to mention all the nonprofit work I've been doing for various causes. There's always someone in need of a helping hand.

Overall, I suppose my goal was simply just to ensure that my people were happy and well provided for. In practice, that turned out to be a bit more complicated than I thought it might. For one thing, the amount of people I'd call 'mine' seems to be perpetually expanding- back in the Underground, I ran a charity to help my fellow spider monsters, then on the Surface it was about all monsters, and then of course I started getting attached to a few humans, too...

I'd say 'I suppose I'll have to stop somewhere', except that I really don't think I do. As long I can keep finding new people, I likely will.

Hmm. That sounds like enough to keep all of your hands full.

[Shepard just manages to keep her shit-eating grin off her face. And the rest of her words gets a fond shake of her head from the commander.]

I think I understand that sentiment more than I probably should. Just be sure to not overextend yourself, yeah? It's all well and good to help people, but not to the detriment of your own abilities.

We can probably wrap this unless you want to do more with it.

I've heard that advice before, and it's not entirely wrong... just promise me you'll practice what you preach, dearie.
