[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE

Something is wrong.

This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.

Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.

Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.

Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.

Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.

There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.

Not that it counts for much, probably.

He lets them play it out. Doesn't offer suggestions, doesn't divert the thread of conversation. This is taking too long. This wasn't supposed to be permanent. This is starting to become untenable. All things that would have been obvious - if any of them expected to make it half this far.

If any of them expected it to be a problem, which none of them had.

"I guess that's what it comes down to," he says, finally. "What...course of action you'd feel best taking."

A moment. He watches the fire, watches the ghostly silhouettes of other dreamers, of other sharers, doubtless caught in their own loops of shock, of dismay, of humiliation.

"Whatever that ends up being - you don't have to decide now. And you know I'm still gonna be here, no matter what you figure."

The words he uses are almost as if...he feels they've done everything thus far because they felt it was best. Because they felt it- not because it was. And there's really no point in correcting him, in stating the cold truth of the matter.

Their feelings matter as little now as they have this entire time. It is an obligation, to do the right thing. And ultimately, things are the same as they have ever been.

The world is a far better place without them in it.

And Tim, for all his faults, has never contested that.

"I know." Chara responds quietly. They never had a doubt about that.

“If there’s one thing we have here, it’s time.” They’re caught in a middle space, between a subversion of memory and a point of no return, with no one to hold them accountable but their own self. And in many ways, that’s the worst judge of all, because they will not be merciful. Because they will not be forgiving.

Because they would not see themself as deserving of that.

“You have the time to decide. Both of you.”

However many miles you’ve walked, that’s the beautiful part of it.

The part where you can still turn back around, and retrace the steps you covered.
