[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE

Something is wrong.

This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.

Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.

Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.

Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.

Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.

There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.

Not that it counts for much, probably.

It's not really a discovery if you saw it coming. But then, an ending isn't always what you expect.

There's plenty to take in here, especially amid what other bits and pieces he glimpsed before. It's not a happy picture being painted--but then, Edward wasn't ever expecting one. And as much as he'd like to fill in the missing pieces...

Ed settles himself a few feet away from...the kid, glancing at them out of the corner of his eye. "...something happened to them. Or to you?"

They don't look back at him, intent on keeping that much (the expression on their face, that constantly building exhaustion) their own, even if their memories aren't. People will pry. That is simply what they do.

Edward, at least, is someone who has been through enough to gain an honest answer.

"To me. Then to both.

"Though perhaps things would have stayed like this, if I hadn't died."

If I hadn't died.

It's different, when that's something from your own home. A death that should have been real, should have been final, rather than the false sleep that only seems to heap on more trauma-filled nightmares that places like this inflict on those trapped within. Ed's brows furrow, and he turns to look at them more directly.

"An accident? Or--" No. No, they've had their past exposed enough as it is. He isn't blind to the stiff line of their shoulders, the misery pressing down on them. "...nevermind. Forget I asked. ...but I'm sorry things turned out that way."

A hum of laughter, flat as it may be. He's sorry.

"Don't be. I'm not." They glance at him, lips pressed thin and eyes narrowed. "Not all of us have a wish to return to our original world, sir. My own wish is to remain as far away from it as possible, no matter the cost."

One, vaguely bittersweet memory does not make up for everything else. It never would.

Ed glances over at them, frowning slightly and...once again,he knows there's things he's missing. Parts of a puzzle that these kids are keeping as carefully hidden as they can. But even with what he has, he can understand certain parts. He remembers Lust's confession, but also his own mother's attempts to distance herself from a previous life. Not everyone has the same reaction, the same desires.

"...then the past can stay the past." He smiles wearily, hoping they'll believe his sincerity. Even what he does know of them, they're not the kind to take much at face value. "Hopefully you and your sibling will find something better, wherever you do go."

He's smart enough to have his suspicions. They know that, but at this current stage, there's no way to avoid it. Their identity has been compromised- in name only, but it wouldn't take long, until the implications of said name come to the surface.

It seems worthless, to continue attempting to ignore that.

"Only time will tell."
