[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE

Something is wrong.

This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.

Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.

Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.

Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.

Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.

There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.

Not that it counts for much, probably.

[Gobbet eyes the child critically at the second use of the word "ma'am" but doesn't comment. She's never been great with kids, but she's like 99% sure saying "If you keep calling me that I will make a mental note to hate you after a while" is not kid-friendly behavior. It's nothing personal, she just...ma'am is for grown ups and people of importance. She is neither of those things. She's just Gobbet.]

What made you change names?

[Why yes, she is completely oblivious as to how personal a question that is considering the memory's contents.]
achievementhunter: (and you were a plot device)

[personal profile] achievementhunter 2018-01-13 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Too bad Gobbet you're ma'am now live with it.]

To be honest- something that matters very little, now.

[They purse their lips, not going into further detail. As it stands, that is a topic of conversation with Frisk- something they must decide together, before any changes can be made. And if they are? More questions will come.]

It is not my choice to say.

Uh-huh?

[There's something unsettling about how proper and...and rigid, this child is. It's like a stone statue wearing a kid's smile. Aren't kids supposed to be full of energy and messy? They don't sit still, they radiate innocence and warmth. But this kid says ma'am and structures their sentences in nice, proper ways. They hold themselves straight. It's part of what made Gobbet think "royalty".]

[Gobbet looks away, pressing her lips together tight before she can blurt out the question on her mind.]

[What's with you, anyway?]

Where I'm from we rarely use our real names. We either pick them ourselves or earn them. 'Cept me, I was "lucky", I guess. To be born with a weird enough name that it passes as a street name.
achievementhunter: (NPCs don't interest me)

[personal profile] achievementhunter 2018-01-14 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[If they were privy to her thoughts, Chara would hardly be surprised. It's nothing that hasn't been said to them before- a weird child, you act to old, loosen up. What's wrong with you?

Instead, they focus upon what she's telling them, glancing at her out of the corner of their eyes.]

And what name would that be?
ratsinadaze: (Interaction)

[personal profile] ratsinadaze 2018-01-14 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Gobbet.

[She says the name with a wry smile. Yes, like the wad of meat. Yes, it's her real birth name.]

Whenever I tell people, they assume it's a runner's handle anyway. Nobody expects it to be a real name.
achievementhunter: (who says we'll never be royals?)

[personal profile] achievementhunter 2018-01-16 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard worse.

[They really haven't. But Gobbet is of a similar caliber to going by the name of a font, so keeping a straight face is fairly simple.]

It must make it easier for you, at least.

[personal profile] ratsinadaze 2018-01-16 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah most people say something along those lines. Gobbet knows her name is weird. She stopped caring at a very early age.]

Definitely. Don't think I could have picked a runner name on my own.

[And her actions haven't painted her in a flattering light, so other people naming her was right out of the question. One team isn't even alive to call her something insulting anyway. The other might have called her Mutiny or That Asshole Who Inadvertently Helped Tsui Start a Mutiny and Caused The Deaths of Dozens Of Us.]

Then again, I've never considered names important. I think they're a liability, to be honest.
achievementhunter: (hardcore judgement tbh)

[personal profile] achievementhunter 2018-01-18 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. And what would a runner be, precisely?

[She gives them an easy way out- a change of topic that has nothing to do with names, or themself. And of course, Chara is going to take it.]

[Gobbet grins. This kid seems so eager to seize on anything that isn't a question about them. So she'll take the opportunity to brag a bit, if indeed admitting that you're SINless trash can be considered bragging.]

[She's explained to a couple people already, but she has the memory of Ace to thank for the description she provides now:]

Short answer: Criminal mercenary operatives. Long answer: Someone who doesn't exist in the public eye, can't legally get a job, and commits crimes for money as a means of getting by. Wouldn't call it my dream job, but I don't know what my dream job would be in the first place, so I guess it evens out.
achievementhunter: (but don't let winter come)

[personal profile] achievementhunter 2018-01-22 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Neat.

[Which is probably the most childish answer one could ever hope to gain from them, but Chara's eyes gleam in a manner that speaks of how very interested they are in a life of crimes. So many crimes.]

Have you ever killed anyone?

[Make that the second most childish answer anyone could ever hope to gain from them.]
ratsinadaze: (Default)

[personal profile] ratsinadaze 2018-01-22 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gobbet barks out a laugh. When she was a kid, she thought it would be a neat job, too. She was right, to be honest. It's been a pretty fun ride so far.]

[At the question she offers an awkward smile. It's not like she's embarrassed by how many people she's killed, it's just...is it okay to tell a kid that lives other than your own mean literally nothing to you anymore?]

You kind of have to, in my line of work. You get used to it after a while.

[Hastily, with a comedic tone, she adds:]

Not that you should - killing people is bad, kids, don't do it.
achievementhunter: (get dunked on)

[personal profile] achievementhunter 2018-01-23 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
A little too late for that.

[Sorry Gobbet, but if their kill count isn't at least twice your own, they'll eat their sweater.]

But it sounds ideal. Unless, of course, you're often required to work with others.

[personal profile] ratsinadaze 2018-01-24 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Too late? What are you, like eleven? How much killing does an eleven year old have to do?]

[...But between all the guards, triads, enemy shadowrunners, demons, spirits, monsters, and sometimes innocent civilians/her own teammates she's murdered in cold blood, it's a hard tally to imagine beating.]

Ah, that kind of life, huh?

[Gobbet recalls her own preteen years as a fledgling shadowrunner with some amount of fondness. Sure, it had been necessity at the time, and none of it was as glamorous as she was led to believe on her way into the industry. But it was fun, in its own warped and twisted way.]

I wouldn't say "required", just "recommended". It also depends on the work. An assassination might be easier with nobody else in the way, but if you're going up against a hoard of enemies, you could do worse than having some people around to soak up the excess bullets in your place.

[She's only half kidding.]
