[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE

Something is wrong.

This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.

Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.

Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.

Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.

Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.

There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.

Not that it counts for much, probably.

[This girl. Chara's eyes flick towards her, considering her words. She's...immediately apologetic, despite the fact that-]

Don't be. You are correct.

[They'd tried. There is no one else to blame, that they had failed.

It's hardly comforting to consider that they had taken a while, at least, to prove they didn't deserve it.]

On both counts. That name is no longer mine.

[For a moment she mulls things over, and then it hits her.]

Kidwun.

[She says it aloud, but there's a distinctive pause between the two syllables. Of course. It's... so obvious. She really feels silly, for not having noticed it right off the bat.]

Was that... a name you picked?

[The impression she always got is that... numbers as names are deprecating. Their number - their rank, really - had tended to come up more often when they were in trouble. Light, Xion's original "name," no. i... When they'd gotten their retrieval units at the Tower, the chipped ones, a lot of people had given them names, rather than use their number.]

No.

My sibling chose that name for me. Kidwun and Kittu.

[With the intent of being deprecating. A vivid reminder that their time here is short-- that there is no longer a person enough between them to concern themselves with silly attachments.

If only that had been a little more effective.]

[A part of her wants to be angry at Chara's sibling but it's pretty clear from the start that this situation isn't that simple. After all, they chose a similar name for themselves, too.

To say none of this is bothering her would be a downright lie. There's confusion, to be sure. A kind of frustrated enviousness - they had names, no doubt, normal names without that kind of... stigma attached to them. Why would they just throw that away? Or leave it behind, or... whatever. But also an understanding that it isn't something you do lightly.

In the end, it all boils down to one question:]

Why?

Because it suits our current needs.

[They have a goal, Xion. A calling- a cauldron upon which to lean over the edge, hand in hand. Names are powerful things, fraught with connections, with memories, with LOVE. Frisk and Chara are two children who already stepped into the cauldron to hell.

Who's to say Frisk and Chara ever really came out again?]

Truly, it is neither your concern, nor your business.

[Why does it feel like this conversation turned into a fight all of a sudden? Maybe because Kidwun's words feel like a jab in the gut. A hard one.

For a moment, she's confused, upset, and most of all, at a loss for words.]

Maybe it's not my business, but that doesn't mean I don't care.

[And there is nothing they can do to change that - they can end this conversation here and now, can never say anything else to her, but they can't change that she cares about this. Because this is hitting way too close to home in a lot of ways for her not to.]

Care..?

[She has to be joking. And they laugh, because that is all that statement deserves in response-- before saying more, because that is who they are.]

Ma'am, you do not care. I am a child you have met all of once. A paltry meal does not equate to a sense of responsibility so strong you must now Die For Me.

It is not your business, but that doesn't mean you aren't nosy. Willing to force the issue to satisfy some personal need to validate yourself by becoming an influencing factor in this scenario. How heroic. How selfless.

[How self-important.]
