[MU] - DECEMBER STORYTELLING / MEMORY SHARE
Something is wrong.
This may not very well be obvious, at first. The Storyteller is not present to put forth yet another diatribe, informative or apologetic, and the backdrop of guttering flame and sandy campfire is as present as ever...albeit briefly.
Those who tell their stories will start to notice something...odd taking place. Indeed, no matter how they intend to begin their tale, the land of Mu will immediately start to warp to accommodate it, or something utterly unlike it, until storytellers and listeners alike may find themselves in an exact recreation of a seemingly random memory, in the most stark and painstaking of detail. There is no altering the memory, nor is there any preventing it once it's begun to play - you will simply have to witness memories that are not your own this go around.
Furthermore, stories that take place in worlds other than LifeAftr will be, frankly, inevitable. Those memories, too, will be recreated, to be relived by the teller and lived by the listener.
It is time, once more, for you to tell a story...with a slight twist! This is, in fact, our first player plot, as provided by Dragon! The initial setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams.
Yet for this Storytelling only, people can imagine whatever stories they wish, from both their homes and their time on LifeAftr, as long as they don't mind the fact that others will be reliving those stories in the form of an impromptu memory share.
Even those who prefer not to voice their stories aloud are not safe this time around. If the memory is recalled in essence, Mu will shift to accommodate it in full.
There is, however, a benefit to this: those who venture memories to be relived will receive both a befuddled apology from the Storyteller, who will assert that this was most definitely not meant to happen (they're the Storyteller, not the Rememberer!), as well as a tired promise that the relived memories will be worth two offerings each, as if in compensation.
Not that it counts for much, probably.

"Relying on magic for everything will only get you in trouble one day," they scold the girl and Lup can't help snorting fondly. Damn, and here she thought she was special. It's weird but kinda heartwarming to realize she's not the first stubborn magic user to insist on befriending them.
And then they're offered a present and the look they're giving the girl is painfully familiar. Shocked, suspicious, unsure. Shit, she hadn't realizes just how much of a trip it must have been for them, to be given a dope lil necklace out of fucking nowhere by a near stranger, again. Actually, that won't do, and Lup resolves to get them used to the idea. It turns out to be a beautiful bookmark, and they love it, genuinely and wonderingly. Lup is as glad as if she'd given the present herself. This girl did good that day.
The memory fades out of sight slowly and she can figure it's gotta be pretty bittersweet. Although it probably doesn't need her meddling, trying to give some unwelcome comfort or whatever, it does seem too important to go unacknowledged. "Looks like you've got a type, kid," she teases easily. "Does she do fire, too?"
no subject
It's an involuntary thought. Intrusive and unwanted, it is never accompanied by a sense of fondness or exasperated humor- just the pain of once again reminding themself of what is no more. The girl in this memory doesn't exist anymore.
More to the point, the child in this memory doesn't exist anymore. This entire occurrence, all of their memories- are now instances in their mind alone. Unshared, unwanted. For all their use, they may as well be figments of Chara's imagination.
But oh, as Lup looks to them she reminds them once more of her; another, firey magic user. Their type who always earns a smile no matter how painted with agonizing nostalgia it is.
"Jealous?" They ask flippantly, regardless of how they feel. She is not Rin.
And even if she were, these are not things they would share. Not then. And certainly not now. "As a matter of fact, she did know some spells of that nature."
no subject
She laughs just as flippantly. "You got me there. I'm not used to being second best, you know?" A little dramatic hand over her heart, like that's where it hurt, how better to deal with real feelings than with some shitty theatrics between the two of them. "What's her name? So I know whose ass to challenge in a wizard duel if I ever land in her plane."
no subject
Chara is fairly certain neither side would win.
"Alas, you have been bested in the action of declaring first." They look to the side, where Rin had been sitting moments ago. "Her name is Rin Tohsaka. I should warn you, she will be quick to retaliate."
no subject
It's hard to tell if they want to talk about her more or leave all that behind, and she glances at the empty spot as well, ear twitching in consideration. "What were you reading there? I'd kill for like, Uncle John's Elven Bathroom Reader at this point. The least this shitty island resort could have is a library."
no subject
"Kitchen, by Banana Yoshimoto. It happens to be a favorite of mine... my sibling's, as well. They have a copy, if you'd like to borrow it." And if she so much as tears a page, they'll never speak to her ever again.
no subject
"Aww sweet! I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume it's not a cook book? Can you give me like, the Cliff's Notes on it?" Because now she's really curious what sorts of stuff twelve-year-olds read where they're from.
no subject
"Hardly. Though there are many descriptions of Kitchens..." The cliff's notes, huh? The child trails off for a moment, considering, and then--
"We all believe we can choose our own path from among the many alternatives. But perhaps it’s more accurate to say that we make the choice unconsciously. I think I did-- but now I knew it, because now I was able to put it into words.
But I don’t mean this in the fatalistic sense; we’re constantly making choices. With the breaths we take every day, with the expression in our eyes, with the daily actions we do over and over, we decide as though by instinct."
Why explain when they can just quote it at her?
