[MU] - SEPTEMBER STORYTELLING

The familiar sensation of not sitting quite within the realms of reality is what greets you when consciousness first strikes. Opening your eyes, you may be one of the plenty who find the large, imposing door before you familiar - then again, perhaps not.

Sitting on the door itself is a large bearded dragon. Introductions probably aren't necessary at this point.

"One would think a god would be more aware of new additions to their home - perhaps thousand year naps are counterproductive in that regard." They flex their claws against the stone, beaded eyes concentrated on your form. "A good sign, wouldn't you say? The answers we all seek may rest below this very island."

That said, the door itself remains closed.

"It will take me a little longer to give you all access; in the meantime, I will refill the mana pool located in these ruins. Come and go from this place as you please. And do mind the heat, won't you?"

With that much said, the dream warps, slowly settling into the warm light of a large campfire.

It is time, once more, for you to tell a story. The setting will be familiar for oldcomers, and newcomers will recognize it from the introduction they received in their dreams. This too is a dream, and the ink-black dark is illuminated only by the bonfire surrounded by log seats. And seated around the fire are your fellow islanders, many of whom doubtless know the drill by now.

One by one, you will each have the opportunity to share your stories, as stories possess a certain undeniable power. Newcomers can tell whatever tale they wish, but for those who have been in LifeAftr for at least one Storytelling, only stories of their time in LifeAftr will count down the road. The story need not be long, or conventional, or even verbal; as long as the Storyteller knows it has been told, it will qualify.

If you prefer to keep your mouth shut, that's always an option, though you're more liable to benefit if you do. Perhaps you'd rather not relive any of your history, varied and variegated as it must be. Or maybe you're something of a compulsive un-truther, prone to embellishments and long, fanciful tangents. As long as the core of the story is true to its spirit, you are free to spin your tale however you like.

So choose well.

[he might actually be hooked because the idea of Jaune lying again is LUDICROUS. once, surely, but two times in a row??? madness.]

Player name: Taku
Character name: Crow
Character journal: [personal profile] tomodachi
Offering: Two stories! One is about the "land of treasure" he found back home, which is really just an abandoned amusement park that no one visits anymore and has since fallen on hard times. He'll talk about all of the trash treasure and shiny objects (coins, screws, feathers, random objects, jewelry, etc.) that he's found there, and the "adventures" he's had exploring and ruling over it as his domain.

This will lead into a second story talking about how he met his best friend Seto, though the way he tells it involves exaggerating a bit and kind of riffing parts from an in-game story called "Pirate Isle". A lot of what he had said to Seto were in fact direct quotes from that book, as that book is the first one Crow ever read and is what ultimately shaped him to become the person he is today.

I'm sure we've all come across some rather interesting wildlife on this island, in the time we've been here- some merely strange, some dangerous. The very first time I had to deal with something here, fortunately, I wasn't alone.

I'd been looking around in the woods near the Ruins, to see what I could find for provisions, when I heard someone shouting.

When I went to look, I found my friend Marcille having an impressive argument... with a feathered lizard.

The rude little creature had stolen her comb, apparently- much like crows, I suspect they're fond of anything that shines. Obviously, I wasn't going to let someone steal from a friend, so I agreed to help her catch it.

A single line of purple magic was enough to hold it in place, and Marcille made short work of the thing with one good hit from her staff.

[She holds up a hand and makes a line of purple light between her fingers to demonstrate, as she talks.]

She picked up her comb, and we thought we were done... until we heard the rustling and cawing noises in the background, getting louder.

It turns out we weren't the only ones willing to help out a friend.

The trees were close enough together to make a good place to anchor my threads, so I wove a net to cover us just before the rest of the creature's flock broke through the leaves above our heads. They wound up tangling themselves in my web, and Marcille kept firing shots at them until the smarter ones got the message and fled.

All in all, it wasn't the way I'd planned to get my breakfast... but they turned out to be quite tasty, once we cooked them properly.

And it's always nice to share a meal with a friend.

[Muffet smiles and sits back once she's done with her story.]

[She looks calm and relaxed... but underneath that, there's a hint of sadness. Whatever's kept Marcille from showing up anywhere lately, she hopes it's not any more trouble to get her out of than that was.]

Player name: Echo
Character name: Muffet
Character journal: [personal profile] prettypurpleparlor
Offering: Muffet is going to tell the story of the time she and Marcille fought some pteraxes to get back the mage's stolen comb.

It's not really a story of grand and terrible deeds... but it matters a little more to Muffet than the light and amusing contents might imply. Marcille's been missing without any explanation for a while now, due to her player dropping, and Muffet is very worried for someone she'd quickly come to consider a friend.

The fact that she picked a story about Marcille is no accident, either- she's secretly hoping that it'll catch people's attention, if they know anything about what happened to her...

[Muffet gives Weiss a deeply sympathetic look.]

I hope you won't feel slighted on behalf of your species if I say that I'm suddenly very glad not to be a mammal.

Although, regrettably, species difference hasn't kept me from having a couple of... deeply awkward bathtime encounters, myself.

[Plenty of monsters don't even bother with clothes, but knowing that humans have a nudity taboo that you accidentally managed to break manages to still make it incredibly awkward.]

Really any kind of covered area around part of the river would be helpful.

Player name: Roxy
Character name: Guzma
Character journal: [personal profile] yallstupid
Offering: TWO STORIES AW YE.

The first will be the trek up toward, what Guzma will absolutely call "the surface of the Sun". He'll pretty much tell everything straight, only omitting parts about the lungblossoms and making that part pretty vague and very quick. He's not going to talk at all about himself during that part.

The second story will be about his expedition with Luna ([personal profile] holdmyhand) and how they encountered a pack of centipuppies. Guzma will go full turkey on this story, detailing the battle he had and how his and Luna'a pokemon fought off the pack as est they could before they had to retreat. It should be noted that he's going to get really excited and animated when detailing the creatures, and actually smile and laugh when he talks about them. He'll probably even throw in a few pet names for them, too.

Bug boy loves his bugs. uwu

[Guzma's barely paying attention. His facial expression tells it all - he could literally care less about this broad and her stupid story, and her rolls his eyes the moment she spews out "starring me" in the first breath. Of course it's going to be about you, I mean...the world clearly doesn't revolve around anything else, and no one else on this island matters. Not the kids that have been digging through the dirt to feed themselves, climbing up mountains where the sun blazes hot, or reliving their nightmares due to some hallucinogenic flowers, no.

It's all about you and your needs.

Guzma sneers, then he raises a brow as he begins to tune in. And thank fucking god he did, because his face begins to pale when he realizes where the hell this story is headed. She can't be serious...oh,no. No, she's totally serious, and going there. Going there with the full force of a charging Tauros. Glancing swiftly around at the group - there are actual children here, you brainless tart - Guzma leaps from the log he was sitting on and grabs a fistful of sand, flinging it right in Weiss' face (and her blabbering mouth) in hopes to stop her flapping tongue.]

Jeez--!! Are you that dang clueless, you stupid broad?! There are kids here that don't need'a know 'bout any of what you're vomiting!! Filter the garbage that comes outta that mouth, what the heck!

[Team JD is what he called their little partnership, they remember. A silent traveler - there aren't very many of those on the island at all to begin with, are there?]

[But everything else doesn't particularly match up. The Drifter's head goes to one side, and then to the other.]

Simple stories often hold the greatest power. Pleased with her offering, Ren will awaken the next morning with a small gift from the Storyteller tucked in beside her; a two page guide on how to make flower crowns (with plenty of diagrams), and a roll of washi tape to help her as she gets the hang of it.

Whilst the Storyteller appreciates your artistic creativity in your offerings, he will find the photos resting beside his head the next morning.

Whilst a picture is worth a thousand words, they feel such content is generally more appreciated by their creator.

After her time listening to other's stories (and indeed, telling her own) has come to an end, Muffet will find herself alone with the Storyteller.

The overly large white rabbit gently explains that at this time, it appears Marcille is no longer on the island. Her story in this place has come to it's end. They assure her that this does not mean her life is over; on the contrary, it appears she has returned home to finish the story she was always meant to take part in.

In addition to this, she will awaken the next morning to find the items Marcille previously requested stacked neatly in her home; one grater, one frying pan, and one cooking pot, the specifics of which can be found here.

His love for the local fauna is most appreciated- upon waking, Guzma will find an almost perfect centipuppy plush laying beside him; 30cm (~1 foot) in length overall.

The plastic glasses stitched to the top of it's head are a perfect replica of Guzma's own.

[ She covers her face with her arm when he throws it, immediately narrowing her eyes. ]

I'm sorry if you have a problem with human biology, but the children probably should know about this. There are young girls here who may be almost at that age and no parents to explain any of this. Unless you're planning on having that talk with the young women here if they run into problems like boys trying to bathe with them or their menstrual cycle, in which case I'll gladly yield the floor. [ It's not like she started giving them the sex talk, but if anything children being here should be exactly why they should acknowledge this sort of thing. ] I'm not going to be the reason some young girl thinks she's dying because some boy is acting like it's something to be ashamed to talk about.
whiteas: (Here's a suggestion.)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-21 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not slighted in the least. I don't think there's any human woman who would say this was intelligent design.

[ It's dumb design, that's what it is. ]

I'm not an architect, but it'd be nice if we could make walls somehow- even privacy screens of some kind would be nice.
yallstupid: (AND NO SALT!)

[personal profile] yallstupid 2017-09-21 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
THEY'RE TEN!

[If that. Guzma's very close to his breaking point already, and throws his hand out to the array of children sitting around the fire, and the air suddenly gets very tense, and very quiet. This is why he can't stand people like her - they're so self absorbed they can't think of anyone else but themselves. The feelings of others, and how to approach a situation intelligently, is a moot point so long as they get what they want. Selfish.

He hates it. And he hates her.]

And even if they all may be older, how 'bout you think a little and pull them girlies aside to have a chat about their bodies by themselves, huh? Lil pow-wow y'all ladies can have together, instead of forcing 'em - actually, forcing all of us - to hear something they got no right nor care to be thinking 'bout yet.

Also? Screw you, you cotton-headed piece of trash, y'all don't give a darn whether or not these kids learn anything 'bout their bodies...so long as y'all get a chance to complain 'bout the amenities not being available on a deserted island. A DESERTED ISLAND! Tell me I'm not wrong, sweetie! Go on!! [He taps his fingers to his head.] Y'see this? This here? It's my head, darlin', and if'n a lowly schmuck like me can use it better'n some spoiled little princess, y'all got no right to toot out the ugly hole what's been given to it.
whiteas: (SO EXCITE!!!!)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-21 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ It is at this moment Weiss wishes she had a paper and a pen. She wants to write down everything the run into and just make a list of what is/isn't edible, what moves in flocks or packs or what have you, weaknesses and special details that might give them an advantage in a fight.

That said, she kind of wants to go fight some of the feathered lizards to go find out. Perhaps she'll ask Muffet to show her sometime. Either way, it was a rather exciting story. ]

I haven't seen Marcille lately. How has she been? I wanted to ask her about learning magic...
whiteas: (If I can summon does that mean)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-21 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ She rolls her eyes. Honestly. ]

First of all, girls can start that around 11. Second of all, you're going to get mad at literally everything I do just like you have since the first second we met, so the fact that you're angry now really isn't concerning. You got mad at me the first time we met because I didn't bow down when you decided to treat me like I was less than a person! Why would I care about anything you have to say?

[ She can tell he hates her. It's not hard to figure out, but what she can also tell is that she could've literally said anything and he wouldn't have cared. ]

I know exactly what I'm doing and I've thought it through very well. If anyone besides you were upset, it would count for something. But you're sitting here calling me selfish when I'm telling a story so that none of the other women have to deal with this without getting the products they need to keep functioning because I have no intention of hogging it for myself. It's humiliating and I chose to do it anyway because these are products that we need. I'm going to ask for as many as I can from the Storyteller so no one else has to put up with this situation and if the only thing you can think about is how it offended your sensibilities then you need to get your egotistical anger-ridden manchild of a brain out of your-- [ God, she's not going to say that. She takes a deep breath. ]

It's biology, and people like you treat it like something shameful to be hidden away and that's why so many girls and women feel like they're doing something wrong, because idiots like you treat it like it is.

[ They have a difference of opinion about what selfish is, that's for sure. ]

If you're so intent on "protecting the kids" about this, stop treating others like garbage because they have a different opinion than you. I'm not the bad example here.
prettypurpleparlor: Oh no, no (To ask me is in vain)

[personal profile] prettypurpleparlor 2017-09-21 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Muffet will, in that case, thank the Storyteller very politely for letting her know. It's... at least better, not just having to wonder and worry.

When she wakes up, she'll curiously examine the items and recognize them from having seen Marcille cook, which will lead to her remembering what the Storyteller said putting two and two together about where these came from.

At which point she will put the items carefully away with her things and take a few moments to quietly have an Emotion about that in private, before taking a deep breath, getting back up, and calmly getting on with her day.

[personal profile] prettypurpleparlor 2017-09-21 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'd say it sounds a lot more like the 'error' portion of 'trial and error', if anything.

I could probably weave a small curtain, if we could build some kind of frame to hang it on, although I've been using a rather large amount of silk lately in order to make rope for repair work, so it could take a while...

Perhaps weaving something out of broad leaves and palm fronds, in the short term? It would likely wind up being blown down the first time there's a storm, but it would work well enough for now.
prettypurpleparlor: Thinking only (And I've a many curious things)

[personal profile] prettypurpleparlor 2017-09-21 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Weiss being studious is adorable, and Muffet would be happy to go pterax hunting with her some time if she asked- they could probably get enough to make a nice big dinner, if they tried.]

[At her question, though, Muffet sighs sadly and shakes her head.]

I'm afraid I don't know. No one I've asked so far has seen her in some time, and despite having been looking around quite a bit I haven't run into her anywhere.

I suggested to another friend of hers that we try asking the Storyteller if they could tell us what happened to her, if no one turned up anything soon.

We're all getting rather worried, as it is.

Offering: Contrary to how engaging they've been before, Chara isn't particularly in the mood to be so jovial tonight. The stories they offer are too the point, flat- and certainly don't try to dress up any of the dangers they may have been in at the time.

The first is a slightly humorous tale regarding how they tricked someone into teleporting for the first time. It would probably be funnier if the child's voice wasn't so cold.

The second is the story of how they fought off a pack of tigersharks, including vivid detail into how Guzma had held them underwater so they could more easily spot (and stab) the creatures.
