Uh-huh?

[There's something unsettling about how proper and...and rigid, this child is. It's like a stone statue wearing a kid's smile. Aren't kids supposed to be full of energy and messy? They don't sit still, they radiate innocence and warmth. But this kid says ma'am and structures their sentences in nice, proper ways. They hold themselves straight. It's part of what made Gobbet think "royalty".]

[Gobbet looks away, pressing her lips together tight before she can blurt out the question on her mind.]

Where I'm from we rarely use our real names. We either pick them ourselves or earn them. 'Cept me, I was "lucky", I guess. To be born with a weird enough name that it passes as a street name.
